A New Beginning.

How to choose a word to describe your focus for 2022.

I can't believe its' February already. I know I'm late in getting this out, but I've been thinking about this for a while. Most words of the year are in retrospect: for example https://www.merriam-webster.com/ tracks the most searches done on the internet on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis. With these results they come up with the Word of the month or year. They even have most active current searches. As I'm writing this, the words most searched are "race" and "fascism". This is indicative of what our society is thinking about and/or worried about. Webster's word of the year for 2021 was, not surprisingly "Vaccine" Other words throughout the year, according to Webster were "insurrection", "perseverance", and "woke". Enough of looking back! Its time to look forward.

In this post I want to focus on the future and how to come up with a word of the year for 2022. One word which reflects your goals, desires, emotion, and focus for this new year. Here are four questions to ask yourself when thinking about selecting a word of the year for your life. Then follow the instructions listed below to select your one word.

What character of a person do I want to be in 2022?

What emotional state do I want to achieve?

What relationships do I need to focus on?

How will the word I choose improve quality of life for others and myself?

Choosing your word of the year.

  1. Honestly ask yourself these four questions

  2. Select 1 or 2 favorites from each question

  3. Then out of those selected, choose 1 word that will address all four questions:

  4. Finish this statement: My word of the year for 2022 is __________________

I know this is a limited list of words, and you will most likely think of more. But hopefully this will get you started in the process. You're probably wondering what my word of the year is? My word for 2022 is OPTIMISM. As I noted in a previous post, 2021 has been a very difficult year in so many ways. Many will anticipate 2022 with pessimism, and dread. I choose not to. God is still in control, and I am optimistic that 2022 will be a good year both for continuing to build relationship with God, as well as with family, friends and neighbors.

I would love to hear from you and what word of the year you chose. I wish you the best in 2022.

Be well and stay healthy
